There are way too many risks in getting involved in sexual activity before marriage. I am waiting for that one special person that I will spend the rest of my life with and can trust fully! Hello! My name is Kayla! I am 16 years old & I’m in 11^th grade.
I chose abstinence because when I was in 8^th grade, I did a lot of stuff. I’m still a virgin, but I did bad stuff. Stuff that I regret with all my heart & wish that it never had happened…but it did & I had to deal with that.
In that process, I was so down about myself that I was so done. I hated myself & I had no self-confidence.
My mom & I are really close & I recommend this for all teens – get close to one of your parents (they really do understand what you’re going through!). She & I talked about what was going, but she couldn’t make the decision for me.
I didn’t know what to do at this point. Was I going to continue down this road that was destroying me? Or was I going to make a change within myself? I didn’t know what to do.
I mean, it sounds easy enough to choose abstinence, but I was thinking that everyone was messing around & having sex & if I wasn’t, then I wasn’t cool. WRONG AGAIN!
The people that I was hanging out with were messing around, but they weren’t the best crowd. When I started 9^th grade, I met The A-Team & immediately volunteered.
Once I met all the people on The Team, I knew that I wanted to choose abstinence. They made me feel good about myself & they were just the greatest people ever. I joined a basketball team too & the girls on the team really helped.
My confidence boosted & I was happy. I still have regret about what I did, but it’s not as bad. I know I have changed.
To all the people who are reading this, wait until marriage. It’s going to be hard – I know that. You have the same hormones as everyone else! But WAIT! You will feel so much better if you do!

Hi, my name is Jolie. I have chosen abstinence personally in my own life because I know that it is the safest thing for my body. I believe that by keeping myself pure I am protecting myself from emotional pain as well as physical consequences. Now that I am in a relationship I can see how hard it is sometimes to keep this commitment, but I also see how worthwhile it is. I have set boundaries for myself because I want to save this gift I have for my husband. I want to come to him pure and not messed up by previous relationships. Hey, my name is Bethany; I have been on The A-Team since No Messin' Around started. I have chosen to remain abstinent and officially signed my commitment card in 2003 at an Abstinence Rally. My choice to remain abstinent until marriage has caused me to really think about why I am remaining abstinent. Abstinence is not only a choice not to participate in any sexual activity before marriage, but it is also a choice to respect yourself and realize that you are worth the wait. When you say, “I want to remain abstinent until marriage,” it doesn’t mean that it is going to be easy from then on. It still will be something you have to commit to every day. I chose abstinence for many reasons – one being that I don’t want to have to deal with all of the consequences of not remaining abstinent. The Abstinence Team has helped me in many ways – not only to understand why abstinence but to also be able to stand strong in my decision and not be afraid to speak my mind on this issue. I am not just saying this so you will choose abstinence. This decision must be made by you – no one can force you to choose it. If you are forced to make a decision you usually end up rebelling against that decision. If you choose abstinence you must choose on your own and be firm in your decision. I believe that this decision is one of the best things I have committed to. When my wedding day comes I will be able to tell my husband that I have waited for him.
